Flooded Dream – A Song About Heroes helping others to rise | Nicole Victoria Lauren

This song is inspired by a tale of betrayal and resilience. I hope it reflects the everyday people I met and who were “helpers” in my community. When tragedy hits, it is usually neighbors who are responsible for the recovery. They are first to pitch in, lift others up and rebuild. These people are the ones who make it all worthwhile, even when others let us down.

Song Page: Flooded Dream – Official Draft

A cinematic portrait of a woman with blue-tinted hair at a beach sunset, reflecting the introspective mood of Flooded Dream.

Welcome. I’m so glad you’ve found your way here. Please, make yourself comfortable, find a cozy chair, maybe grab a cup of tea, and stay as long as you’d like. My door is always open to those who seek a little bit of sincerity in this noisy world.

Today, I want to invite you into the “official draft” of a piece that is very close to my heart: Flooded Dream. Writing music is rarely a straight line for me; it’s more like a walk through a thick mist where shapes only become clear once you’re right in front of them. This song is one of those shapes, a story that needed to be told, even if the telling of it felt a bit like enduring a storm.

The Visual Anchor

Before we dive into the “why” and the “how,” I’d love for you to experience the “what.” Below is the visual companion to this draft. It’s a work in progress, much like the song itself, but I believe it captures the essence of what I was feeling when the first notes began to surface.

The ‘Prima Voca’ Section: A Tale of Betrayal and Resilience

In my work at NVL Music, I always return to the concept of Prima Voca, or the “first voice.” It’s that initial, unpolished spark of intuition that tells you what a song needs to be before your analytical mind starts trying to fix it. With “Flooded Dream,” that first voice was whispering a story about a “masterful illusion.”

Have you ever been promised a sparkling new beginning? A place that felt like home, built on words that shimmered like gold in the sun? That’s where this song starts. It’s about the excitement of moving toward a dream, only to realize that the foundation was made of sand and the walls were painted with broken promises.

House is surrounded by a flood and sandbags

This “home” I speak of in the lyrics isn’t necessarily a physical building, though in the Flooded Dream Recovery Song, the imagery of rising water is very literal. It’s about the emotional architecture we build around people we trust. When that trust is betrayed, it feels as though the floorboards are rotting beneath your feet. The dream becomes flooded.

But, and this is the part that matters most to me, the song isn’t just about the flood. It’s a meditation on hope after the water starts to rise. It’s about the resilience that comes when you stop trying to bail out a house that was never meant to stand and start learning how to swim. It’s a “first voice” realization: you are not the house. You are the spirit that survives it.

The ‘Soundscape’ Section: The Resilience of Water

When I was composing the atmospheric layers for “Flooded Dream,” I wanted the music to feel as wet and heavy as the lyrics. I’ve always been drawn to how things “feel” rather than how they are technically categorized. I wanted this soundscape to be immersive, a bit like my other work in Rain Deluge.

Water is a strange thing; it can destroy, but it also reflects. In this track, you’ll hear cinematic textures that mimic the sound of a receding tide and the quiet, echoing drip of a ceiling that’s finally given way. I used the human voice as a primary instrument here, layering it to create a sense of being surrounded by memories, some beautiful, some painful.

A close-up, tactile digital painting of a human hand gently touching the surface of water, creating delicate, concentric ripples under moody, golden light.

The resilience in this song is not loud. It doesn’t scream or stomp its feet. Instead, it is unshakeable, like the deep currents of the ocean that remain still even while a storm rages on the surface. We often think of strength as something hard and unyielding, but “Flooded Dream” argues that true strength is fluid. It’s the ability to find a new way to breathe when your old world is underwater.

I’ve shared some of the lyrics for Flooded Dream on the site, and if you read through them, you’ll see that the transition from betrayal to resilience is a slow, rhythmic process. It’s not an overnight fix. It’s a quiet, daily choice to keep your head above water.

Embracing the Work-in-Progress

I’ll be honest with you, sharing a “draft” feels incredibly vulnerable. As an independent artist, there’s always a temptation to wait until everything is “perfect,” until every note is polished to a mirror shine. But that feels a bit like the masterful illusion I’m singing about, doesn’t it?

By sharing this draft, I’m inviting you into my studio, into that cathedral-like space where the instruments are leaning against the walls and the ideas are still wet on the page. I believe that sincerity is more important than trend-driven perfection. If this music touches your heart, then it has done its job, regardless of whether it’s a “final” version or a raw sketch.

A surreal illustration of an ethereal, sparkling home dissolving into soft mist over a dark, reflective ocean.

Disagreement is okay, too! Music is a conversation. If this doesn’t resonate with you, that’s perfectly fine. My work is for those who crave substance and aren’t afraid to sit with the “storm-like” pieces of life. Whether you’re here for the cinematic soundscapes or just a quiet moment of reflection, you are welcome.

If you’re curious about how this song fits into the larger arc of my recent releases, you might enjoy exploring A Toast to My Friends or the more upbeat energy of Dunkman (I can Feel It). Each song is a different room in the same house, some are flooded, some are filled with light, but they are all honest.

About the Production

Flooded Dream is a visual meditation on hope, betrayal, and resilience in the aftermath of promises that didn’t hold. Told without a central performer, the video unfolds through symbolic imagery and quiet, atmospheric moments—spaces once meant to feel safe, now altered by unseen forces.
