Lyrics: Dunkman (I can Feel It)

Behind the Lines

Welcome, friend. I’m so glad you decided to stop by the NVL Music space today. Please, stay as long as you’d like, this is a low-pressure environment, a little corner of the world where the coffee is always warm and the music is always honest.

Today, I wanted to share something a bit different. If you’ve followed my journey for a while, you know my “head is often in the clouds,” lost in cinematic violins or sweeping, storm-like soundscapes. But every so often, the “first voice” (Prima Voca) inside me just wants to move. It wants to shake off the weight of the world and find a groove that feels like a heartbeat.

That’s where Dunkman (I can Feel It) comes in.

This track is what I like to call “Funky Dancy” 🙂 It’s a house-influenced derivative of my original song, “Dunkman.” While the original will eventually be part of a larger, five-part series, I felt this high-energy version needed to breathe first. It was born out of a desire to just have some fun in the house music space, but more importantly, to capture that specific moment when you realize that, despite everything, you can still feel good things in your soul.

A painterly, atmospheric digital illustration of a figure in motion, capturing the essence of a 'funky dancy' house beat.

The Rhythm of the Soul

In the world of music production, it’s so easy to get bogged down in the technical stuff, the “how” of it all. Is the kick drum EQ’d perfectly? Does it follow the latest trends in the EDM scene? Honestly? I don’t worry too much about that. For me, sincerity and imagination are the only real north stars.

When I was putting this version together, I wanted to blend things that shouldn’t necessarily go together: a hypnotic sitar riff looping over a four-on-the-floor kick, rhythmic violin stabs, and those deep, percussive vocals. It’s a bit goofy, a bit experimental, and entirely open-hearted.

I’ve always believed that music should be a conversation between the artist and the listener’s intuition. This song isn’t about being “cool”, it’s about that raw, primal feeling of connection. When the bass hits and the claps start teasing in, I hope you feel that lift. I hope you feel that spark that says, “Yeah, I’m still here, and I can still feel the light.”

A high-detail painterly illustration of a hand reaching toward a soft, glowing light that represents the 'soul'.

Creating with Intention

Using the term Prima Voca as my compass means I trust my first intuition before the “analytical brain” can come in and tell me it’s too weird or not “radio-friendly” enough. With Dunkman (I can Feel It), the intention was simple: joy.

Sometimes we spend so much time “enduring storms” (which I write about a lot, like in Rain Deluge) that we forget to celebrate the moments of sunshine. This track is my way of documenting a breakthrough, a reminder that the human voice, whether it’s singing a ballad or acting as a percussive storyteller in a house track, is the ultimate bridge between us.

Whether you’re listening in your car, your living room, or while you’re out on a walk, I hope this rhythm finds its way into your day and reminds you that you are connected to something bigger.

The Music

I’ve embedded a player below so you can listen while you read. I’m an “indie” at heart, so I usually lean toward SoundCloud, but I know many of you live on Spotify too. For now, let’s just let the music speak.

The Lyrics

For those of you who want to “grab and go”, whether you’re singing along or just want to sit with the words, here they are in their simplest form.

[Intro]
(four-on-the-floor kick, muted sub-bass, shuffling hi-hats)
(filtered pads swell, deep delayed vocal)

I can feel it
I can feel it (yeah)

[Build]
(percussive synth pluck enters, claps teasing in)

I can feel it
I can feel it (yeah)

[Chorus]
(full percussion, layered claps, staccato lead)

I can feel it in my soul
I can feel it (oh-oh)
I can feel it in my soul

[Bridge]
(kick drops out, sub-bass and atmospheric pads take over)

I can feel it
(I can feel it)
I can feel it in my soul
(I can feel it)

[Drop]
(kick slams back, hi-hats open, lead synth rides the groove)

I can feel it in my soul
I can feel it (oh-oh)
I can feel it
I can feel it in my soul

[Outro]
(instruments fade, leaving just kick and hats)

I can feel it in my soul
I can feel it…

A painterly, atmospheric digital illustration of a pulse line glowing softly against rich earth tones.
